A broadcast from state television announced the deaths of 48 people from the American and European air-strikes, which denoted the largest concerted international military invasion since the Iraq war and came as the Libyan freedom fighters lost a month’s worth of progress as Colonel Gaddafi’s used his military supremacy to take back rebel positions.
In a phone interview on state television, Gaddafi warned he would not give up Benghazi and declared the government were making weapons depots available to all Libyans, who now had access to “automatic weapons, mortars and bombs.” State TV announced that pro-Gaddafi defenders were assembling at airports and military airbases to act as human shields.
“We promise you a long war,” Gaddafi vowed.
